SBU’s women’s tennis team faced the toughest part of their schedule from March 11 to March 16. These six days were packed with five matches for the Bearcats; back-to-back-to-back matches were against #8, #11, and #17 in the nation, respectively. The Bearcats sandwiched two wins around a tough, heartbreaking, 2-5 loss. A loss during the following week has dropped SBU’s record to 5-4 on the season, but spirits are still high thanks to those incredible upset wins.

The men’s team also faced their toughest streak of games in the last two weeks. Playing five matches in 10 days, the Bearcats made the most of their efforts. Winning three of the five matches, SBU lost their first two matches of the season; however, the losses came at the hands of #7 University of Hawaii at Hilo and #16 Hawaii Pacific University. Winners of two straight, the Bearcats’ record holds true at 9-2 on the season.

The Bearcats’ baseball team spent the majority of the previous two weeks in their home ballpark. The Bearcats hosted two three-game series in front of their home fans as they continued MIAA Conference play. Unfortunately, SBU dropped five of the six contests, which drags their record to 9-17 on the year. Traveling to Joplin between the home stands, the Bearcats faced #10 Missouri Southern State University in a one-game series. The Bearcats took the Lions to extra innings, but the cross-state rival prevailed on a walk-off in the bottom of the 10th.

The softball team had a rather strange couple of weeks. Planning on 10 games during this span, the Bearcats only were able to compete in six. Inclement weather plagued the Bearcats in Maryville, MO, and St. Joseph, MO, which led to both doubleheaders being postponed. The Bearcats, who were riding a two-game winning streak, fell short in all six contests bringing their record to 3-20.

Golf’s spring season has returned to SBU’s campus! Matthew Chandler, who shot a +12 (225) in three days of competition, led the way for the Bearcats in their first tournament of the season. His performance helped lead SBU to a sixth-place finish in the Washburn Invitational.

The women’s team has hit more of a roadblock at the start of their season. The Bearcats have participated in two tournaments and have placed 14th and 16th. Led by senior Ashley Kelley, the Bearcats will look to increase their positioning at the Jennies Golf Invitational, which is held on the campus of the University of Central Missouri from March 25 to March 26.
