With tennis’ season beginning, baseball and softball’s season progressing, and basketball’s season wrapping up, there are plenty of athletic events keeping SBU busy at this point in the year. Let’s see how each of these teams are faring.

Starting the season with a tournament in Arkadelphia, Arkansas, SBU’s men’s tennis team won all three matches in the tournament. With two more matches under their belts, the men’s team is off to a quick 5-0 start to the season; they have won their matches by a combined score of 31-4 during this dominant stretch of tennis.

The lady Bearcats’ tennis team has participated in far fewer matches than their male counterparts, but the early results have been promising. They stand at 1-1 on the season and have a schedule that features matches against #2, #9, #14, and #15 in the country in their next three weeks.

The SBU baseball squad has gotten off to a so-so start to the season. With an overall record of 6-5, the Bearcats have had plenty of high points, which include a 19-4 victory over Maryville University, and low points, which include a 24-11 loss to the same school.

The softball team picked up their first win of the season on Valentine’s Day. The 5-3 win over Wayne State College was a sight for sore eyes, as the Bearcats have started the season with a 1-8 record.

Basketball

The last two weeks have been difficult for the men’s basketball team. The Bearcats played the #1 team in the country, Northwest Missouri State, twice in the span of three games. SBU fell short both of these contests and finished the two week stretch 1-5 overall. This pushes their record below .500 (12-14) for the first time since November.

In contrast, the women’s basketball team played excellently. They finished this two week stretch 3-3 but are riding a three-game winning streak heading into their final two games of the season. With the recent success, the Bearcats’ record has bolstered to 9-17.
