Spring Break is a great week to catch up on sleep, spend time with loved ones, and regain motivation to finish the semester. Now that we have all had the chance to hit the reset button, I will give you a few tips on how I keep myself motivated throughout the last eight weeks of the semester.
Keep a To-Do List
One of the most stressful parts of college is keeping up with the work that is becoming due. Making sure that you are keeping a list of upcoming assignments is a great way to avoid procrastination and reduce stress. Typically, I will write down assignments on my to-do list a couple weeks in advance and work on them gradually. Doing so produces a better quality of work and helps me avoid sleepless nights with four cups of coffee to keep me going.
Keep a Positive Mindset
We only have eight more weeks until this school year is over and then we can hit the beach for some fun in the sun! Until then, it is important to maintain a positive attitude about the upcoming weeks and all of the wonderful things that April and May have to bring. If you make an effort to keep a positive mindset, assignments seem less stressful and you can enjoy your time in college.
Make Time for Yourself
School can become stressful quickly if we forget to take care of ourselves throughout the semester. This could be making time to workout, maintain healthy eating habits, spending time with friends, or even attending one of SBU’s fun activities. Sometimes we forget just how much we are putting ourselves through when we become engrossed in school work and forget that we need time to replenish ourselves. Often times I will turn to meditation or yoga when I find myself stressed and overwhelmed.
Keep Your End Goal in Mind
We are all attending college for a reason. Whether that is to learn more about ourselves, grow as an individual, provide for our future families, or pursue something that we love, we all have an end goal that we would like to achieve. If you begin to use this goal as motivation every time you go to class, you will find yourself more motivated and eager to pursue everything college has to offer. In turn, you will begin to see your purpose in college and how every assignment you complete is affecting your future.
Remember that if college were easy, everyone would attend. You have been given the incredible opportunity to further your education and grow in areas that some individual never will. Here is to the second half of spring semester!
