SPEAKING BEARCATS NAMED OVERALL CHAMPION AT TOURNAMENTS

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Southwest Baptist University Speaking Bearcats opened the 2018-2019 traveling season by being crowned the overall champion at the Missouri Mule/Dale Carnegie Swing speech and debate tournaments Oct. 19-21, hosted by the University of Central Missouri in Warrensburg.

Squaring off against teams from 22 other colleges and universities, the team won the overall individual event sweepstakes championships of both tournaments and the overall combined sweepstakes championships of both.

“We were pleased by the results and the hard work our team put in to achieve them,” said Dr. David Bailey, director of forensics. “Swing tournaments are a challenge. The students do two full days (approximately 12-13 hours) of competition, and then get up early on the third day to do it again.
