SBU COMMUNITY CONCERT SERIES PRESENTS MEZZADRI ON OCT. 19

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The SBU Community Concert Series presents the second concert in its inaugural season with Brazilian flutist Danilo Mezzadri at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 19 in Meyer Recital Hall on the Bolivar campus of Southwest Baptist University.

Mezzadri is Principal Flute with the Gulf Coast and North Mississippi Symphony orchestras. His performances have been reviewed as “gorgeous” (Detroit Press), and “with a limpid sound, and coaxing every ounce of lyricism” (Jackson Patriot).

The American Record Guide describes his CD, “Brazilian Soundscapes,” as “music of a high order that deserves a welcome from a global audience.” In his most recent CD, “Epigrams,” Mezzadri is said to have “glowing, golden tone” and “vivid musicality bringing each work to life, regardless of tonality,” according to Fanfarre Magazine.

He has won several competitions, such as the International Porto Alegre Symphonic Orchestra Young Instrumentalist Competition and the Brazilian International Flute Association Competition. A sought-out performer and teacher, Mezzadri maintains an active concert schedule around the United States, South America and Europe. He teaches flute at Southern Mississippi University, Festival Músicas nas Montanhas, and Blue Lake. Mezzadri graduated with the First Prize Award from the EMBAP (Brazil), and earned MM and DMA degrees from Michigan State University.

The public is invited to attend this free recital and is encouraged to attend a reception in the Meyer Recital Hall lobby after the performance, as well as support SBU Music students through donations for music scholarships.

Brian Hsu is scheduled to perform on Feb. 14, 2019, and Duo MemDi (Igor Kalnin and Rochelle Sennet) will be in concert in April 2019 as part of The William and Kathy Brown Guest Artist Series.
