Poem | Ode to Autumn

By Thomas Schaal

October 4, 2018

Fall has come upon us. Never is it late and never is it hurried.

It is always right on time and comes exactly when it so desires.

The leaves celebrate this change and transform their outfits accordingly,

The rushed student grabs their coat on their way out the door,

and the very air softens its touch and cools all things to the core.

The local coffee shops bring out their finest creations

as the various farmer's markets equip them with the fruits of their labor.

The teachers are found hard at work, various papers are scattered about their rooms,

and the students begrudgingly accept them.

The lovers nestle up, warming each other against the cold,

and thank Autumn for such a situation.
