Poem | An Ode to Mellers

By Morgan Hixson

25 April 2019

Alas, Mellers Dining Facility

What vocabularic words can thus be said about thee?

Might one try the sweet, sweet words of poetry

Or perhaps the humble, down to earth words of honesty?

It would be a fusion of both were it left up to me…

Oh wait! It is, as you can see

I must say, dear Mellers, you are no five-star

There have been times when you have set a low bar

Be it pasta with drywall, or nuggets with char

I do believe my insides have many a scar

From once trying to digest what appeared to be tar

But do not think ‘bad’ is all that you are

For there are days when you do even the score

And cook delicacies which leave us all wanting more

To which us students engage in a line war

Where going for seconds is often quite the chore

On days like these I regret walking out your door

Instead of going back to get helping number four

In the end, fair Mellers, what can I say?

Your talents swing wildly from day to day

Overall I suppose you are adequately okay

But do allow me one last word, if I may

We really do love you, despite what we relay:

For where else might we dine without having to pay?
