1. North and South Korean emissaries are meeting to pursue peace on the peninsula. The Korean peninsula has been at a military standoff since the fighting ended 65 years ago, and one of the goals of both nations is to finally sign a formal ceasefire. North Korea even appears to be willing to give up their nuclear arsenal. As the New York Times reports, President Kim Jong-un is insisting that the United States promises not to invade before publicly disarming North Korea’s nuclear arsenal.
2. Bill Cosby was found guilty of three counts of sexual assault last week and could be facing 30 or more years in prison. Cosby’s battle against sexual assault allegations began in October of 2014 as women continued to come forward with allegations. Most of the charges were to old to prosecute, but remained in the public eye as Cosby appeared in court. The New Yorker wrote a bold editorial on the topic and the relieved shock many felt after Cosby’s conviction.
3. In recent years, controversy over immigration across the Mexican-American border has increased. For the 150 members of a migrant caravan of asylum seekers, this meant that their journey lead to a long line of red tape. The New York Times published that this group of 1,200 immigrants left Guatemala in March to seek safety in the United States.
