On Tuesday, May 1, approximately 200 faculty, students and their families gathered in McClelland Dining Facility for Southwest Baptist University’s annual Honors Banquet to recognize students who either received departmental awards, are graduating members of the Gordon and Judy Dutile Honors Program, are Alpha Chi senior members, or those graduating with scholastic honors. After invocation by Assistant Professor of English, Carla Kirchner, and dinner provided by Fresh Ideas, University President Dr. C. Pat Taylor gave a welcoming speech.
“I see students walking across [the forum at graduation], and think how will we replace them?” Dr. Taylor said during his speech.
After the welcome, the departmental awards, which were also presented during Wednesday's honors chapel, were presented first.
During the Presentation of Special Recognitions, Jessica Griffis received the Stanley H. Dill Distinguished Scholar award and Josie Linder received the Charles Chaney Scholar award. University Success Center Assistant Professor and Director of the Dutile Honor’s Program, Jodi Meadows, presented the Dutile Honors Program Graduates, including Chase Bussey, Victoria Harbison, Ian Huffman, Jacob Immel, Kat Jespersen, Madeline Moler, Aaron Morley, Kara Mullen, Joseph Reyes, Emma Richardson, Mackenzie Roth, Kensey Dressler, Cinasee Tapee, Amy Vitt, and Seth Walley.
Kirchner also recognized the following Alpha Chi Senior Members: Miranda Applegate, Mary Arts, Gary Bernhardt, Chase Bussey, Elayne Guffey, Kaley Hansen, Olivia Harris, Emily Jones, Karen Kelley, Uriah Lentz, Maria Martin, Madeline Moler, Hunter Moore, Aaron Morley, Emma Richardson, Reece Tabor, Claire Van Doren, Amy Vitt, Joseph Wagner, Averi Walker, and Seth Walley.
SBU Provost Dr. Lee Skinkle recognized the seniors who will be graduating with Scholastic Honors. Cum Laude students are graduating with a GPA of 3.5 - 3.699 and received a set of bronze ropes to wear at Graduation. The following students will be graduating Cum Laude this semester: Sarah Bowman, Samantha Callahan, Mary Carr, Thomas Chabrecek, Erin Cloud, Jacey Collins, Taylor Goforth, Katy Goodwin, Stormy Greathouse, Kiera Herndon, Rebekah Hynes, Thomas Jeffries, Whitney Johnson, Larissa Katzer, ZoeAnn Large, Rebecca Litzinger, Jacob McCammon, Mycah Meers, Tyler Middleton, Kara Mullen, Ikponmwosa Oghide, Anna-Catherine Pettit, Austin Rasmussen, Katherine Robinson, Bethany Russell, Brianna Stanley, Kirstin Stanley, McKenzie Swortwood, Jessica Tankersley, Christine Tessmer, and Kelcee Welch.
Seniors graduating Magna Cum Laude have a GPA of 3.7 - 3.849 and received a set of silver ropes to wear at Graduation. The following students will be graduating Magna Cum Laude this semester: Eden Beasley, Joshua Bertoldie, Tiffany Brown, Miriam Burchett, Elizabeth Burris, Davis Cantwell, Ashlyn Cook, Dona Dubbs, Taylor Gossen, Victoria Harbison, Olivia Harris, Zachary Keith, Kailynn Kneibert, Uriah Lentz, McKenzie Lesh, Nicole Miles, Ashley Monje, Hunter Moore, Stephan Munsell, Veronica Parks, Joshua Robinson, Latisha Russell, Victoria Skobal, Joseph Sommerer, Tanner Sublette, Kala Svendsen, Derek Sweiger, Silas Van Hoecke, Alec Van Wormer, Jodi Wake, and Logan Wools.
Seniors graduating Summa Cum Laude have a GPA of 3.85 - 4.0 and received a set of gold ropes to wear to graduation.
