Campus News | SBU Handbook Sheds New Light on Clint Bass Dismissal

During a strategic planning listening session held on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2018, Southwest Baptist University President Eric Turner made a short statement regarding the recent dismissal of Redford College of Theology and Ministry professor, Dr. Clint Bass. Due to the vague nature of the information provided, confused hearts and minds continue to look to Southwest Baptist University for additional answers.

Unfortunately, there is nothing further the University can say at the present time.

As per protocol laid out in Southwest Baptist University’s Faculty Handbook, complete confidentiality is guaranteed in personnel cases. The Handbook also states that all appeals will be “sent to the Educational Policies and Personnel Committee of the Board of Trustees.”

The Educational Policies and Personnel Committee consists of Syndee Chase (businesswoman, Lebanon), Jim Evans (businessman, Blue Springs), Don Jump (dentist, Bolivar), Ryan Palmer (pastor, Springfield), and Rebecca Randles (attorney, Kansas City). Randles chairs the Committee, which, according to the Handbook, is assigned the task of finding “the burden of proof that adequate cause exists” in the Dr. Bass dismissal.

Because Dr. Bass is appealing the dismissal, this is presumably where SBU’s most recent developing story currently resides. The Handbook does not give a specified timetable for Committee deliberation, so a conclusion on the matter may not be immediate.

Infuse Student Media reached out to administration and some faculty for comment, but none was provided. However, Infuse was assured that if and when the University is able to share additional information, they will do so in accordance with privacy law and policies.
